Microformats vEvent

Thanks!

Thanks for coming! The slides will be made available here as I receive them.

About the event

London Web WeekMicroformats vEvent is part of London Web Week and takes place on Tuesday 27th May, and aims to take the opportunity to gather together everyone interested or involved with the semantic web and showcase some of the latest developments in the area.

Everyone is welcome, whatever your level of understanding of microformats, RDF, GRDDL etc. is. We hope that no matter your experience level, you’ll find the evening informative, enjoyable and inspiring.

The evening will begin at 7pm at the Yorkshire Grey with drinks, and will feature two short presentations by Tom Morris and Dan Brickley who’ll discuss specific aspects of microformats in conjunction with other semantic web technologies. There should be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

The rest of the evening is strictly social, with the chance to mingle and chat with like-minded folks.

This community event is being organised by Frances Berriman and Drew McLellen of microformats.org.

Sorry – We’re all full up now and don’t have any more tickets available!

The main attractions!

Dan Brickley – One Big Happy Family: Practical Collaboration on Meaningful Markup

Dan Brickley photoThis talk explores some ways in which the Microformat and RDF approaches can complement each other, and some ways in which we can share data, tools and experiences between these two technologies. It will outline the often-unarticulated history of the RDF design, the techniques used for parsing and querying RDF data, and the things made easy and hard through this approach. RDF techniques can be contrasted with the different choices made for Microformats. However these differences obscure an underlying similarity that comes from shared ‘Webby’ values.

Dan Brickley, co-founder of FOAF, has been developing, advocating for and using RDF and Semantic Web technologies since 1997.

Tom Morris – Putting microformats on the Semantic Web with GRDDL

Tom Morris photoIn the talk, Tom will describe in some technical detail how GRDDL works, and how it provides a layer for ‘deep semantics’ that sits on top of microformats, and how URIs are a key part of building the data formats of the future.

Tom Morris is founder of Get Semantic and is a regular contributor to the W3C Semantic Web Interest Group. He is also involved with microformats, specifically Vote-Links and XOXO.
